01 March 2023 12:11

WorldStar 2023 results announced. 14 of the packaging designs that ranked in the Crescents and Stars for Packaging Competition organized by the ASD Turkish Packaging Manufacturers Association, were awarded at WorldStar 2023, which is organized annually by the World Packaging Organization (WPO). Türkiye was among the top 5 countries with 14 awards received from WPO. Assessing the results of the competition, Mr. Zeki Sarıbekir, President of  ASD Turkish Packaging Manufacturers Association said: “This year we received 14 awards as Türkiye . We are very happy with the interest we receive in the competitions. The fact that the winners of our competition, organized in Türkiye, resounded more in the international arena, demonstrates that the design approach has been increasingly adopted . The growth of the packaging industry also contributes greatly to exports. The way to value added exports goes through design.”

The WorldStar 2023 competition organized by the World Packaging Organization (WPO) is concluded. In the competition that received 488 applications from 41 countries, Türkiye was among the top 5 countries that received the most awards. In the competition, Japan came first with 26 awards, Australia and New Zealand came second with 19 awards, India and Germany came third with 18 awards, Türkiye fourth with 14 awards, and Austria fifth with 13 awards. The winners will receive their awards on May 6, at a gala night in Düsseldorf, Germany organized during the Interpack 2023 Exhibition (May 4-10). Stating that in order to participate in the WorldStar competition, a package must have been awarded in a competition recognized by WPO in its own country, Mr. Zeki Sarıbekir, President of the ASD Turkish Packaging Manufacturers Association said: “Environmental performance comes to the fore in production all over the world. The winning designs at WorldStar demonstrate that innovative and sustainable packaging collect attention. Responsible production and consumption are priorities for the Turkish packaging industry. Our standing among the top five award-winning countries in the world is a significant achievement that highlights the quality of our work.”

THE WAY TO VALUE ADDED EXPORT GOES THROUGH DESIGN

Noting that the Turkish packaging industry gave a successful test in this challenging process that the world is going through, Mr. Zeki Sarıbekir said: “The winners of the Crescents and Stars for Packaging competition, which we organized as ASD, have the right to represent our country in the international arena. Our competition, which we initiated to ensure designers and packaging manufacturers have competitive power in international markets, is the only packaging competition in our country with competence and validity in the international arena. Our winners can compete in the WorldStar organized by the WPO, in addition to the AsiaStar competition organized by the Asian Packaging Federation.” Stating that the increase in the number of awards received by Türkiye in the WorldStar competition compared to the previous year demonstrated achievements of the industry very well, Mr. Zeki Sarıbekir said: “The packaging industry is growing day by day. In 2023, we expect the market size of the Turkish packaging industry to grow from 28 billion dollars to 30 billion dollars and per capita consumption to increase from 325 dollars to 380 dollars. Our export target for 2023 is 10 billion dollars. We provide an economic activity of approximately 400 billion dollars in our country with packaging. In 2030, we aim to increase our sector size to 50 billion dollars and our exports to achieve a value of 20 billion dollars. The growth of the packaging industry also contributes greatly to exports. The way to value added exports actually goes through design. In this context, we are very pleased with the interest such competitions receive. The fact that the winners of the competition we organized in Türkiye resounded so well in the international arena, demonstrates that the design approach is better internalized . On this occasion, I congratulate the awardees once again and wish them continued success.”
