Among the objectives of Packaging Design Student Contest are to encourage the Turkish students having design education to develop packaging design projects, to raise interest of designers and candidate designers in the packaging sector, to lay the foundations of an interface between the industry and the designers, to establish university-industry cooperation, to increase sensitivity for the development of programs that will result in full-time employment, hardware donations, and research fund provision and experience exchange.

The eventual objective is the development of a packaging industry that will help the commercial products manufactured in our country find a place in domestic and foreign markets and gain competitive power with the added value obtained through original and correct packaging applications.

The entries of the contest are expected to consider the 3 basic functions of packaging, namely containing, protecting and selling; to use fewer resources, therefore fewer materials and less energy in terms of environmental impact; to take into account the possibility of reuse and to be available for recovery.

Other expectations were the physical properties of the product for which packaging shall be designed, the type, amount (pieces or alternative sales amounts) and conditions of consumption, quality and hygiene, attraction, ability to provide information about the product, graphic design in relation to its product content, packaging recycling after consumption, consideration of changing life styles and the consequent consumer expectations.
